My Mom is a Fob: Honesty is the best policy

  • Lisa · 1 year ago
HAHAHA. You gotta give it to Asian parents - they cut to the chase.
  • Sippy · 1 year ago
hilarious. Asian parents are always too honest. lol lol lol

Yeah, I hear the same thing from my mom all the time.
At least my mom will always be more honest to me than my friends...

White parents tend to be in "fat denial" about their kids. It's all "oh hunny bunny youa re perfect the way you are" - better to just say, yeah, get on the treadmill chunkyabunka. ;-)

my mom says the exact same thing to me all the time....

umm - after moving to a big city and eating out a LOT, I maybe gained about 10lbs in one year and went back home, my mom started yelling at me when I tried to hug her and I didn't quite understand why...

she left the house and came home and dragged me into the bathroom to take a pregnancy test - she was so sure that I got myself knocked up...not fat on purpose.

At least it's not the other way around.
My mom says "How come you arm and leg so skinny and the middle is so fat? You too big on top, like flamingo. If I push you, I scare you fall over."

    my personal favorite:

YOUR BODY IS SO BIG NOW! YOU BETTER WORK OUT OR ELSE.... *end*

    (and then there's mystery!)

I have to wonder why the asian community doesn't suffer from more body dysmorphia issues, with all these moms criticizing how fat us kids are. But maybe we do and I just don't know it. Or maybe we just let it roll off our backs, like all the other comments we get from the 'rents.

I don't think that's generally the best approach to encourage an overweight person to lose weight, but if you need to lose weight, you need to lose weight. I don't think that there is a danger of "MORE body dysmorphia issues;" I think if people were actually more conscientious about their health, i.e. don't be so fat, there would be MORE healthy persons.

The best is "YOU GETTING FAT + YOU EAT MORE, FINISH EVERYTHING" in the same sentence
  • haha · 1 year ago
    AGREED.
at the beginning of the meal, "ah really, you need to lose weight. for your own good."
end of the meal, "people will think you have no manners! finish everything!"
    wtf, choose one!

That's really a typical asian mum thing! Especially amongst chinese haha.

My mum will be like, " You look fine."

    Me: "Okay....."

mum: " except for your arms. and your legs, and maybe ur face is getting abit round"

And I'll be, "And u stilI say I LOOK FINE?"

    hahahahah. Love my mum.
